Gordon W. Rudd, age 69, President of National Pools of Roanoke, passed away at 12:00 noon Monday. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Roanoke. Mr. Rudd was a pioneer in the swimming pool industry, and was a charter member of the National Pool and Spa Institute, a board member of the NSPI and a Regional II Vice President. He was the first president of the Southeastern NSPI and a past President of the Mid-Atlantic NSPI Association. In 1989 he was the first president of the Northwest Revitalization Association in Roanoke. Gordon Rudd graduated from Purdue University in 1947 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. An officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve, he served his country on active duty for four years during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Rudd; five children, Lt. Col. Gordon W. Rudd, II; Gayle B. Merrill and husband, Hunter; Gary H. Rudd and wife, Meg; Winky Vaughan and husband, Jim; and Gina Rudd and a brother, Vernon P. Rudd, Calif.; along with six grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Oakey's North Chapel on Peters Creek Road.
