TO SHAMY, ARE ALL GUN OWNERS GOONS?

ED SHAMY (article, Feb. 6) apparently thinks all gun owners are gun goons, the words he used to describe anyone opposed to a 72-hour waiting period for buying a firearm. He also called the person who wounded the 4-year-old girl in Roanoke Feb. 4 a goon. Sounds like Shamy thinks everyone, whether a criminal or law-abiding citizen, is a goon if they choose to own a firearm.

I have no idea where Shamy gets the idea that a criminal would obey a three-day waiting period. If these people obeyed laws, they would not be criminals to start with. The only people affected would be the honest, law-abiding citizen. We do not need any more gun-control laws. We need crime control, the responsibility of the judicial system.

Mr. Shamy owes the honest and law-abiding gun owners of Virginia an apology. Most of us are voters, and few are goons. DANNY M. HODGE PEARISBURG
