Chicago Mayor Richard Daley easily captured the Democratic nomination for a full four-year term Tuesday, a triumph that virtually guarantees Daley re-election in April and puts him in line to resume a family dynasty established by his father, the late Mayor Richard J. Daley, who died in office in 1976.

James Earl Ray, the convicted killer of Martin Luther King, has been placed in solitary confinement, reportedly for plotting a prison escape, a Texas newspaper said.
