WYTHE MAN WOUNDED IN CHEST IN PULASKI SHOOTING

A 45-year-old Wythe County man was wounded in a shooting incident shortly before midnight Tuesday at a home in Pulaski County.

Robert W. Bishop of Route 1, Max Meadows, had surgery Wednesday at Roanoke Memorial Hospital after being transferred there by a Life-Guard 10 helicopter from Radford Community Hospital.

No information was available on his condition Wednesday night. A spokeswoman at Roanoke Memorial said the family had requested that nothing about Bishop be given to the media.

Pulaski County Sheriff Ralph Dobbins said Bishop was shot in the chest and hand. His condition was not known Wednesday morning. The sheriff's office was called Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. by Jay J. Kirk of Fairlawn community, who reported a shooting at his home.

According to Kirk, Bishop and another man came to his home and Bishop began arguing with with him over a woman Kirk and Bishop were seeing. Kirk said Bishop struck him on the head with a .38-caliber pistol, they scuffled and Bishop was shot in the struggle with his own gun.

Kirk said the other man was carrying what appeared to be a semi-automatic machine pistol, but fled when the shooting occurred. Dobbins said authorities are looking for the second man and continuing their investigation into the matter.
