Neil R. Austrian was selected president of the National Football League by commissioner Paul Tagliabue.

Austrian, a New York business executive, will be the league's chief operating officer for business and financial operations. His responsibilities will include all NFL broadcasting, special events and other revenue-producing activities, as well as club financial activities under the league constitution and bylaws.

Austrian, 50, is a managing director at Dillon Read & Co., a New York investment banking firm.
