IN SCHOOL

JAMES RIVER HIGH SCHOOL won third place in the "Best Party in Virginia" contest, sponsored by the state Department of Education.

After-prom parties across the state were judged on the participation of students and community, ideas and activities, promotion, and each school's assessment of how effective the parties were.

The school won a $250 prize, which will be applied toward the cost of this spring's after-prom party.
