NORTHSIDE JUNIOR HIGH TAKES BASKETBALL TITLE

Northside Junior High avenged two regular-season losses to Cave Spring to win the basketball playoff crown with a 62-54 victory on the Squires' court.

Steve Anderson led the Norsemen with 26 points. He got scoring help from Mark Freeland with 12 and Eric Wiley with 11. Trey Ondrus led Cave Spring with 21.

Cave Spring beat Northside by scores of 60-59 and 48-43 during the season.

In the first tournament playoff game, Northside beat Hidden Valley 57-36. Anderson led the way with 20 while Freeland had 14 and Wiley 11. Josh Akers led Hidden Valley with 12.

Cave Spring, coached by Chris Carr, won the regular season with an 8-0 record. Northside, coached by Tracy Poff, was 6-2. The Norsemen were 15-3 for the season. Cave Spring finished 12-4.

The tournament victory this year also was something of revenge for last season when Northside went undefeated through the regular season only to be upset by Coach Billy Hicks' third-place Hidden Valley team in the first round. Hidden Valley then lost to Cave Spring in the tourney finals.
