UVA'S RYAN, STALEY TOP ACC HONORS

Virginia's All-America guard Dawn Staley was selected the 1990-91 Atlantic Coast Conference women's basketball player of the year and UVa's Debbie Ryan was chosen coach of the year in a vote by the league's coaches announced Thursday.

Staley, a 5-foot-6 junior from Philadelphia, leads the ACC in assists with 6.7 per game and steals with 4.3. She averages 14.1 points.

Ryan led the top-ranked Cavaliers to a 26-1 record and won the coach's award for the fourth time.

Staley and North Carolina State guard Andrea Stinson were unanimous choices for the 1990-91 All-ACC women's team.

Stinson, the 1990 player of the year, is the ACC's leading scorer, averaging 23.5 points.

Virginia forward Tonya Cardoza was selected to the first team, and Cavaliers guard Tammi Reiss was a second-team pick.

Maryland's Bonnie Rimkus was voted rookie of the year.

The 1990-91 All-ACC team:
