SALEM'S MARTIN PICKS CONCORD COLLEGE

Salem High senior James Martin, selected first-team All-Group AA by the Virginia High School Coaches' Association, signed a football letter-of-intent Thursday with Concord (W.Va.) College.

Martin, 6 foot 1 1/2 and 245 pounds, was a first-team All-Timesland offensive lineman and was a second-team All-Group AA choice by The Associated Press on offense and defense.

Martin visited Concord and Emory & Henry and turned down a trip to Hampden-Sydney.

The Concord coaching staff says Martin has the potential to start defensively as a freshman and earn a tuition waiver for his final three years. - Staff report
