JAMESTOWN OFFICIALS CAN'T FUND SHIP DECOR

Jamestown-Yorktown foundation officials say they don't have the money to finish decorating the interior of The Susan Constant, and if Gov. Douglas Wilder has his way, they won't get any.

The Susan Constant is a replica of the largest of the three ships that transported colonists from England to Jamestown in 1607. It underwent sea trials Wednesday near Norfolk. It will be opened to the public later this year at Jamestown Settlement.

Wilder said he would veto the $140,000 requested to complete the ship's furnishings from the budget approved by the General Assembly. - Associated Press
