ISAIAH'S DEATH: PREVENTABLE TRAGEDY

ROANOKE police may have found the mother of Baby Isaiah (news story, Feb. 21). In the performance of their sworn duty, they have used DNA testing, questioned a couple of hundred people, released a composite drawing: In short, they have conducted a massive investigation.

If Carolyn Snyder is in fact the mother of Baby Isaiah, she had nothing to offer him in the way of education, shelter, health care, clothing; not even food. Where could she have gone to obtain these necessities? She visited shelters and halfway houses in early December. Does any program exist that would have helped her?

This tragedy could have been prevented if a fraction of the money spent to punish Mrs. Snyder had been available to provide her with a medically safe abortion.

A favorite horror rap of "pro-life" bullies is one that speaks of an "abortion mill" dumpster allegedly full of "little hands and faces." Apparently we are succeeding in fulfilling their prophecy. ROBIN A. RUEGG ROANOKE
