TEEN ACCUSED OF TRYING TO KILL HIS COUSIN

A Roanoke teen-ager was charged Thursday night with trying to kill a relative he had just given a ride home.

William Anthony Noel, 19, of Hanover Avenue Northwest, was charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm.

Also, Raymond Lewis Noel, 22, of Gandy Drive Northwest, was charged with assault in the incident.

Roanoke police said AntoniaTyrone Howard, 21, of Wayne Street Northeast reported that William Noel gave him a ride home about 9 p.m. Thursday, but then opened fire on him.

One of the bullets hit his house, Howard said. Then, Howard said, Raymond Noel chased him with a knife.

Howard, who escaped without injury, said the two men were cousins.

In another incident Thursday, a 30-year-old man reported that he had been cut in the face with a broken bottle.

Robert Angelo Jones, address unknown, said he was walking along an alley in the 400 block of Harrison Avenue Northwest about 6:30 p.m. when another man approached him.

Jones said the man was angry because a relative of Jones' had failed to carry out a promised drug transaction. He broke a bottle and then thrust it into Jones' face.

Police said a witness confirmed Jones' story.
