BLACK STORYTELLER TO SPEAK AT RU

Radford University continues its celebration of black history with a presentation by storyteller Mary Carter Smith at 4 p.m. Monday in Heth Lounge A and Tuesday in Heth Lounges A and B at 7:30 p.m. Smith will discuss the role of storytelling in cultural and personal identity.

Smith was awarded the title of "griot" - the West African term for a keeper of oral traditions - by the mayor of Baltimore and the governor of Maryland. She is co-founder of the Association of Black Storytellers.

Smith's sponsors are the English department and the Black Awareness Programming Board. Call Hilary Siebert, 831-5203.
