MORE PEAR-TREE DONATIONS SOUGHT

Town officials are seeking more donations for the second phase of its "Participant in a Pear Tree" project, which has planted about 40 trees on Main and Franklin streets.

The project was initiated in 1989 by the town and the Downtown Development Committee of the Christiansburg-Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.

The goal is to plant 80 Bradford pear trees. A plaque indicating the donor's name or memorial is attached to the grate around each tree. The price of each tree is $450, which includes removing a section of sidewalk, planting, placement of the grate, and the plaque.

To participate, call Rudy Rash, chairman of the Downtown Development Committee, at 382-6128 or the chamber at 382-4251.
