SCHOOL HOLDS `PATRIOTIC ASSEMBLY'

Pupils and faculty at Scott Memorial Elementary School held a "Patriotic Assembly" on Thursday culminating the school's monthlong celebration of American History Month, Black History Month and Wythe County's Reading Month.

As it turned out, they also were able to celebrate the cease-fire declared by President Bush in the Persian Gulf on Wednesday night.

The school's theme for the month was "Read America." In addition, pupils with relatives or friends serving in the Middle East tied yellow ribbons on a tree placed at the front of the assembly. - Southwest bureau
