INTERVIEW FOR GAY/LESBIAN STORY CAUSED REGRETS

FOR THE PAST several years I considered myself a fairly happy person. The last few weeks have been an experience in anger.

Being interviewed for your articles on the gay/lesbian community most likely was a mistake, not because of what people would think, but because of what some have said and done.

I have learned many things from this experience, one being just how ignorant and disrespectful many individuals can be. The second thing I've learned is to stand up for myself.

I take great exception to Mr. Crutchfield's suggestion (letter, Feb. 15) that homosexuals should get counseling to "become what they were meant to be." What exactly is that supposed to mean?

I'm gay/lesbian; I'm very proud of myself. No one has ever given me anything - I've earned it! I'm not the person with the problem. If anyone in Roanoke wants to say you dislike or hate me or homosexuals in general, I say you have no right, because you don't know me. SUSAN LOWE ROANOKE
