NRA RIGIDITY POINTS WAY TO ITS DEMISE

Mr. Kempa states his refusal to turn in his guns if they are indeed banned, as he very well should. No one in the state of Virginia wants his guns; we would just like to prevent violent criminals from obtaining guns so easily.

How can a sensible person, gun owners included, oppose a waiting period for handguns? If you need a gun quicker than the waiting period allows, its a safe bet it won't be for target practice.

The NRA's unwavering stance on gun control is the beginning of its demise. The organization's claims of appreciation of firearms and responsible gun ownership should foster, not impede, the commonwealth's fight against violent crime facilitated by easy access to guns. The relentless battle against sensible regulations on gun purchases is contradictory to the NRA's original purpose. LYNNE BUTZ BLACKSBURG
