James Kinard Ison, 80, died Friday, March 1, 1991, in Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, Tenn. He was a retired miner, a member of U.M.W. of A. and a member of Local No. 8017. He was a member of Suthers Lodge No. 259 A.M.& F.M. and a member of Lonesome Pine Chapter No. 134, Order of the Eastern Star in Norton. He was a veteran of World War II. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Jimmie Marcum, Henry, Tenn.; Mrs. Judy Painter, Salem, Va.; and Mrs. Donna Raines of Norton; one son, Duane Ison, Roanoke; one sister, Mrs. Beulah Sloce, Norton; thirteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Minor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday in Minor Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Harrison officiating. Burial in Robinette Cemetery. Grandsons and George Lewis will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Norton Rescue Squad. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday at Minor Funeral Home.
