VIKINGS' BRISCOE BEST IN BLUE RIDGE

Northside point guard Chad Briscoe is the Blue Ridge District basketball player of the year and is one of two Vikings on the first team.

Briscoe averaged 11.3 points a game and 3.0 assists. His most important contribution for the Vikings, ranked second in Group AA, was his leadership and the way he took control of tight games in the final moments.

Joining Briscoe on the first team are teammate John Baker, Timesland's second-leading scorer with a 23.1 average, Alleghany's Darren Wheatley, William Byrd's John Smith and Lord Botetourt's Bobby Prince.

The second team consists of Alleghany's Jason Buzzard, Salem's Jay Sandy, William Byrd's Brian Young, and Pete Taylor and Curtis Ballard of Northside. - Staff report
