MARYLAND WILL VOTE ON NO-FAULT

I SUGGEST that what really motivated Thomas E. Albro (letter, Feb. 5) to disagree with your endorsement of no-fault insurance is taking place in Maryland. That state has had considerable problems with the price of insurance and has been wrestling with the problem for some time.

However, much to the chagrin of the Maryland trial lawyers, of Ralph Nader and his trial-lawyer-funded group Public Citizen (which, interestingly enough, Mr. Albro likes to quote), a no-fault insurance initiative will be on the next ballot. It would make it optional and would reduce premiums 20 percent or more.

The noteworthy difference between this no-fault measure and those of other states is the fact it has not been "modified" by the attorneys in the legislature.

"Yes, trial lawyers oppose no-fault auto insurance." I feel that is the most resounding endorsement it could ever have. JOHN P. KEMP ROANOKE
