FOUR DEAD, FOUR HURT IN SCOTTSVILLE CRASH

Four Waynesboro men died and four men were seriously injured in a vehicle accident on Virginia 20 south of Scottsville in Buckingham County, authorities said.

The accident occurred about 6:15 p.m. Saturday when a pickup truck traveling north skidded in a curve and went into the opposite lane, where it collided with another vehicle, state police said Sunday.

"It appears at this time that the pickup truck was traveling above the maximum safe speed for the curve," said Trooper R.A. Cox.

The dead were identified as Mickey Harmon Brown, 32, the driver of the pickup; his brother, Carl Allen Brown, 21, Mitchell Blaine Male, 26, and Kevin Ashby Hubbard, passengers in the pickup.

Police said Male and the Browns died at the scene, and Hubbard died at the University of Virginia Hospital.

The other injured also were taken to University of Virginia Hospital, hospital spokesman David Haugh said. The driver, Robert Paul Ingle, 30, of Cumberland County, and Ernest Steve Palmore of Buckingham County were in stable condition Sunday afternoon, Haugh said.

The driver's brother, Mark Ingle, 18, of Cumberland County, and Charles Banton, 19, of Cumberland were listed in critical condition.
