GUNSHOT VICTIM FOUND LYING NEAR WRECKED TRUCK

A Roanoke man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head was found lying beside a red pickup in Northwest Roanoke Friday.

Police said Hugh Foster Murray, 27, of Northeast Roanoke, was found in the area of Eighth Street and Levelton Avenue about 7 a.m.

The truck had hit a hydrant and officers found blood spatters on the inside of one window. Police also found a shell casing from a small-caliber gun between the driver's seat and the door frame. It was later learned that Murray had been shot in the back of the head.

Murray, who was in serious condition in Roanoke Memorial Hospital Sunday night, has been unable to talk to police.
