CARROLL COUNTY REACHES SEMIFINALS

Matt Montgomery scored 22 points, including 15 on 3-point goals, and Carroll County advanced to the Region IV high school basketball semifinals with a 72-60 victory over Lee on Tuesday.

The Cavaliers (17-7) of the New River District play at Tazewell on Thursday night at 7:30.

Montgomery was 5-for-8 on 3-point attempts for Carroll County, which led early but trailed 34-29 at halftime.

The Cavaliers turned up the defensive pressure in the third quarter and built a five-point lead, which they maintained until the late minutes when the Generals were forced to foul.

Other leading scorers for Carroll County were Jason Stockner with 12 points, Dustin Harmon with 11 and Ben Sumner with 10.
