But Brenda McDaniel, spokeswoman for Dominion Bankshares Corp., said the branches will not be closed even if there are no buyers. She said the bank will sell the branches' deposits, but not the loans.
Dominion owns the branches at Eagle Rock and Fort Chiswell, McDaniel said, meaning it would sell the land, buildings, furniture and equipment. At Valley View, it hopes to sell its lease and equipment. She declined to identify potential buyers; she said the bank is seeking bids.
Neither John Kilby, president of the Bank of Fincastle, or Lyn Hayth, vice president of the Bank of Buchanan, would comment on whether their banks are bidding for the Eagle Rock office.
Dominion's action is intended to reduce expenses, McDaniel said. Last week Dominion closed its branch in the Kroger supermarket at Roanoke's Crossroads mall. - Staff report
