A 7.5 percent acreage reduction requirement is in effect for 1991 corn, grain sorghum and barley. A reduction in oats acreage is not required.
Farmers who participate in the reduction program will be eligible for support loans and deficiency payments, with 40 percent of the deficiency payments being made in cash at sign-up.
Sign-ups also are being taken through March 15 for the 10th Conservation Reserve Program. Bids on eligible land will be accepted based on environmental benefits obtained per dollar of cost to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Commodity Credit Corp.
Land eligibility requirements have been expanded to include not only highly erodible crop land, but also other crop land acres that reduce water quality impairment. There is increased competition to enroll land in the program. Acceptances will be made after a national review and evaluation.
