MANY REAL-ESTATE APPEALS NOT COUNTED

THE 25 percent drop in appeals of Roanoke real-estate assessments may well be out of line. The truth is that many appeals were "cut off" by phone and never logged.

When I called to complain that the new assessed valuation of my home was higher than the market value, my complaint went only as far as the phone call. It was never counted as a complaint for review and appeal.

I am sure that I am one of many who wanted a "sit down and talk" review, but were politely told, "no need to go any further." NICK BORSELLA ROANOKE
