BAKKER DENIED BOND BY JUDGE

A federal judge denied bond Wednesday for Jim Bakker, saying the PTL founder might flee while awaiting resentencing on fraud and conspiracy charges.

U.S. District Judge Graham Mullen said he found prosecutors' arguments that Bakker posed a danger to the community "unpersuasive." But the judge said Bakker's attorneys did not prove he did not pose a flight risk.

Last month, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Va., upheld Bakker's convictions on fraud and conspiracy but threw out his 45-year sentence and ordered a resentencing by Mullen. - Associated Press
