\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT SAMUEL B. JONES, son of Sandra P. Jones of 3112 Oaklawn Ave., has completed training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is a 1989 graduate of Lebanon High School.
\ MARINE PVT. MARK O. WATERS, son of William G. and Donna G. Waters of 4107 Belle Meade Drive, has completed training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. He is a 1990 graduate of Cave Spring. Waters joined the Marine Corps Reserves in August 1990.
\ ARMY PVT. JAMES J. SPICHEK, son of Joseph E. and Janie M. Spichek of 4545 Oakland Blvd. N.E., has arrived for duty at Camp Casey, South Korea. An infantryman, Spichek is a 1990 graduate of Roanoke Catholic High School.

\ PVT. ANTHONY V. GRAY, son of Lillie W. Gray of 1815 Salem Ave. S.W., and James W. Gray of Houston, has completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. He is a 1990 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.
\ MAJ. JUDY C. STRICKLAND, daughter of Doris J. Strickland of Roanoke, has been called to active duty to help support Operation Desert Storm. Strickland joined other members of the 94th Medical Squadron who were deployed to Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., Jan. 31. A graduate of James River High School, she received a bachelor of science degree at the Medical College of Virginia.
\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS RICKY BRATTON, son of George H. and Betty S. Bratton of 4332 Oliver Road N.E., recently reported for duty aboard the aircraft carrier USS America based in Norfolk. He is a 1975 graduate of Andrew Lewis High School.
\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT JEREMY N. WHITMAN, son of Connie L. Hawse of 712 Suburban Ave. S.W., has completed training at Recruit Training Command, San Diego.
\ LARRY W. WILLIAMS has been promoted to major while performing duties in Saudi Arabia. Williams, son of Haywood and Betty Williams of 130 Heatherwood Lane, Salem, is based at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, S.C. He is a 1975 graduate of Glenvar High School and a 1979 graduate of Virginia Military Institute.
\ NAVY\ SEAMAN RECRUIT JAMES G. O'MALLEY, son of Gail A. and James G. O'Malley Jr. of 5328 Sundance Road, Salem, has completed training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Fla. He is a 1989 graduate of Glenvar High School.

\ KELLY\ E. SHERWOOD has been promoted in the Army to the rank of specialist. Sherwood, son of Rebecca A. Sherwood of 6107 Poor Mountain Road, Salem, and Duane E. Sherwood of Connersville, Ind., is an electronic warfare/non-communications interceptor at Fort George Meade, Md.
\ ARMY NATIONAL GUARD PVT. MICHELLE A. KING, daughter of Linzie and Shelby J. Butler of 1221 Mercer Ave. N.W., has completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. She is a 1977 graduate of William Fleming High School.
