Central Fidelity Banks Inc. will reopen its renovated Franklin Plaza office on March 15. The 4,500-square-foot office is at 111 Franklin Road in downtown Roanoke. Robert Coffman is branch manager.

Hospital Corporation of America said Thursday it has repaid a $1.3 billion bridge loan incurred two years ago in a management-led buyout of the Nashville company. Lewis-Gale Hospital and the Roanoke Valley Psychiatric Center, both in Salem, are among the company's 75 medical/surgical hospitals and 53 psychiatric hospitals in the United States. Lewis-Gale Clinic Inc. in Roanoke and Salem is not owned by HCA.

The chairman of NCR, Charles E. Exley Jr., appeared to acknowledge in a meeting Thursday with securities analysts that a takeover of the company by AT&T was all but inevitable. "He has accepted the idea that a deal will get done," said Rick J. Martin, an analyst with Prudential Securities who attended the meeting.
