CAMPBELL'S BROWN GETS BIG SOUTH HONOR

Tammy Brown of Campbell repeated as conference player of the year, and her coach, Wanda Watkins, was selected coach of the year.

Radford freshman Shannan Wilkey was selected Big South rookie of the year, conference officials announced Thursday at Radford, site of the Big South women's basketball tournament.

Brown led the league in scoring (23.7 points per game), field goal percentage (.605) and rebounding (9.7 per game).

Joining Brown on the all-conference team are Laurie Hood of Campbell, Debbie Born of Augusta, Tara McMinn of UNC Asheville and Holly Bottar of Coastal Carolina.

The all-league second team consists of Rosalyn Groce and Becky Harden of Radford, Melissa Herbert of Coastal Carolina, Gladys Burke of Augusta and Tammy Jones of Winthrop.

Groce, a junior, averaged 13.2 points and 2.5 assists for the second-place Highlanders. Harden, also a junior, came off first-year coach Lubomyr Lichonczak's bench to contribute 12.7 points and 6.4 rebounds.
