RELIGION BRIEFS

Spiritual direction A 10-month course to teach Christian laity the art of spiritual direction will begin April 11 in Lynchburg. The Leadership Formation Program will be conducted under sponsorship of the Church of the Saviour, a nationally known ecumenical community in Washington, D.C.

The course, whose cost will be determined by the number who enroll, will be directed by the Rev. Beverly Cosby, pastor of the Church of the Covenant in Lynchburg, and Betsy Tice White, a writer and educator with training from the Shalem Institute of Washington.

Spiritual directors work with individual adults to encourage reflection on God's place in their lives. The process includes prayer, recall of significant life events, and seeking together ways to help others.

Call 804-384-1351 or 804-846-3311 for more information.

\ Interfaith Breakfast

The Roanoke Valley's first Interfaith Breakfast, similar to those which have attracted hundreds in the Richmond and Tidewater areas, has been set for Oct. 23 from 7:30 to 8:45 at Second Presbyterian Church. Dr. Norman Fintel, a former president of Roanoke College, will discuss "What's the Future of American Education?"

Supporters in the Roanoke Valley chapter of the National Conference of Christians and Jews and the interfaith Roanoke Valley Ministers Conference said the breakfast brings together races and religious groups to discuss a common topic while sharing a meal.

\ Fuller to be honored

The Rev. Charles Fuller will be honored by the Southern Baptist Convention's Radio and Television Commission in a special presentation Sunday.

Fuller is pastor of First Baptist Church, 515 Third Street, and will be recognized as part of a nationwide celebration of the 50th anniversary of The Baptist Hour radio program.

Fuller was a member of the Radio and Television Commission Board of Trustees from 1970-78 and was its chairman from 1975-77. He was a speaker for The Baptist Hour in 1972 and 1973.

Fuller will receive a plaque during the 10:30 a.m. worship service, which is being audiotaped for broadcast on the radio program. The weekly national broadcast is a slightly modified version of a typical worship service, including music and a sermon.

"The Baptist Hour" is broadcast in the Roanoke Valley on WFIR Sundays at 6:30 a.m. and WSAY Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m.
