E&H CHARTER DAY TO HONOR THREE CITIZENS

Emory & Henry College will honor three Southwest Virginians at its annual Charter Day observance March 21 and hear an address by Wesley Theological Seminary President Douglass Lewis during the 10:30 a.m. program.

Scheduled to receive citations from the college are Dr. Catherine R. Smith, of Abingdon; Virgil C. Wimmer, Glade Spring; and Norton lawyer Leslie M. Mullins.

Smith was chosen for her efforts to promote quality medical care and social services in Washington County and beyond. Her volunteer work has included Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Abingdon United Methodist Church and the Governor's Advisory Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect.

Wimmer, employed by Salem Tools Inc. at Glade Spring, has led efforts in recreational programs for young people and coached a girls' community basketball team since 1982. He is president of the Children's Christmas Fund Inc. and was instrumental in establishing a medical clinic in Glade Spring.

Mullins is a senior partner in the Norton law firm he joined in 1946. He was named Wise County's Outstanding Citizen in 1982 and has been president of Emory & Henry's board of visitors and chairman of the Clinch Valley College Advisory Board.
