IN REAL WORLD, YOU'RE FIRED, NOT FURLOUGHED

I FEEL THAT I must reply to the Feb. 14 letter by Paula and Mike Fosbre asking me to pay more in state taxes because they are due a raise. I figure if they make $2,999.27 in 15 days, that comes to $71,982.48 dollars annually, or about three times the average income of most Virginians.

My wife and I work for large companies that have frozen wages for 1990, and we feel fortunate to have jobs. In the real world, they do not furlough you; they fire you to save. Try to get a job at the money you make after they decide to terminate your position.

If the Fosbres worked for the same company I do, with their attitude they would be the first ones out the door.
