Fred Gray Farthing, age 92, of 375 South Twelfth Street, died Saturday morning in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was a retired Wytheville barber. He is survived by his wife, Effie Winebarger Farthing, Wytheville; three sons, Fred G. Farthing Jr., Grafton, Va.; William H. Farthing, Roanoke; R. Gail Farthing, Kingsport, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be Monday, 2:00 p.m. in the Wytheville Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Barry Losey with the interment to follow in West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Grubb Funeral Home, Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Those prefering to do so may make memorial contributions to the Wythe County Rescue Squad. The Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
