MAROONS WRAP UP REGION C

An 8-0 run spanning the third and fourth quarters Saturday helped George Wythe pull away for a 69-49 victory over Lebanon in the championship game of the Region C basketball tournament.

Both teams will advance to the Group A state tournament starting Wednesday at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

Lebanon stayed relatively close through most of three quarters, but Wythe sank two baskets to end the third and build a 50-40 lead. The Maroons made two more to start the fourth and make it 54-40, and Lebanon never got closer.

Guard Geoff Goff scored 22 points, including 9-of-10 shooting at the free-throw line. Allen Green added 17 points. J.R. Gilman sparked Wythe's 19-9 run in the fourth quarter with six of his eight points.

Jeff Campbell paced Lebanon with 14 points.
