CONSTRUCTION WORKERS CHARGED IN ABDUCTION

Two construction workers have been charged with abducting and beating a Roanoke man who police say was left for dead on Potts Mountain in Craig County last month.

Roanoke City Police on Friday charged Dallas Wayne McCoy Jr., 29, of Beckley, W.Va., and Michael Joseph Stines, 24, of Oak Hill, W.Va., with abduction and malicious wounding.

McCoy and Stines were held Saturday night at the Roanoke City Jail in lieu of $5,000 bonds.

The two men have West Virginia addresses but are living in Roanoke temporarily while working on the Dominion Tower construction project, according to Police Major J.L. Viar.

The construction workers are charged with abducting and beating Eric Emanual Brown of Roanoke on Feb. 26, court records show.

Brown, 28, was found early that morning walking along the road on Potts Mountain without shoes or a coat. He told police he was robbed by two men in Roanoke and later dropped off.

"I think they put him out there thinking he was dead," Viar said.

Brown was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for injuries and exposure. He was released eight days later, according to a hospital nursing supervisor.
