Dave Odom, who in his second year at Wake Forest took the team to its best record in six years and its first NCAA Tournament berth since 1984, has been named Atlantic Coast Conference coach of the year by The Associated Press.

The Demon Deacons, who at 18-10 received an invitation to the NCAA Southeast Regional to face Louisiana Tech, also posted their first winning season since 1985. Odom earned the coach of the year honors in balloting by the Atlantic Coast Sports Writers Association by four votes (38-34) over North Carolina State's first-year coach Les Robinson.

Jeff Jones of Virginia got three votes.
