SUPPLIERS RETURNING TO BEST PRODUCTS

Best Products Inc. has more than doubled its number of suppliers since early February, the company's president said Tuesday. The Richmond-based catalog showroom retailer, which is reorganizing under federal bankruptcy court protection from creditors, is receiving merchandise from about 700 suppliers.

Before the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Jan. 4, only about 250 suppliers were shipping to Best. Under normal conditions, Best receives goods from about 900 suppliers, the company said.

Best also said sales for the first three weeks of the fiscal year were $59.2 million, 5.8 percent ahead of the company forecast of $56 million but down 35.3 percent from the $91.5 million in sales for the same period a year ago.
