CREIGHTON STOPS TECH 6-3 IN BASEBALL

Nationally ranked Creighton scored three runs with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning Tuesday to beat Virginia Tech 6-3 in the Pepsi/Me-N-Ed's Baseball Classic.

Designated hitter John Pivovar hit two solo home runs to lead the Bluejays (11-1), ranked 12th by Baseball America and 20th by Collegiate Baseball. His second homer broke a 3-3 tie and started the eighth-inning burst. A Tech error, a single by Mike McCafferty and a hit batsman loaded the bases, then leadoff hitter Dax Jones complete the scoring by hitting a two-run double.

Danis Simmons led Tech (6-4) with two hits and two RBI in two at-bats.

The Hokies continue play in the six-day, eight-team tournament today against No. 16 North Carolina. Each team is 0-2 in the tournament. see
