HEALTH-TEX IS SOLD; CHANGES BEGINNING

The sale of financially ailing children's apparel manufacturer Health-tex Inc. has been completed and changes in management are under way, according to the new owners, VF Corp.

The sale preserves jobs of Health-tex production workers, more than 500 of them in Danville. The company is expected to reorganize the business as a VF subsidiary and move its headquarters from Cranston, R.I., to Greensboro, N.C., by early summer.

Health-tex's problems started with a 1982 leveraged buy-out in which a management group acquired control from Chesebrough-Ponds.

VF Corp., based in Wyomissing, Pa., operates the Martinsville fleecewear manufacturer Bassett-Walker Inc.
