REBELS END SEASON WITH 10-3 SETBACK

Scott Daniels scored a goal in each period and the Louisville IceHawks ended the Roanoke Valley Rebels' season with a 10-3 defeat as the East Coast Hockey League regular season ended Tuesday night.

Seven other IceHawks scored goals, and 10 were credited with at least one assist. Pat LeFebvre had four assists to go with a first-period goal.

Gary Callaghan led Roanoke Valley with two goals, and Peter Sentner had one. Getting assists for the Rebels were Rob Wilson with two and Greg Neish and Rob Sangster with one each.

The IceHawks scored seven times on 21 shots on goal against Rebels goalie Mike Mudd. Bill Horn replaced Mudd at 5:22 of the second period; he faced 27 shots and gave up three goals.

The Rebels, eliminated from the playoffs last week, ended the season with a record of 25-32-7, last in the Eastern Division. They scored 218 goals and allowed 295.

The ECHL playoffs begin Thursday night with Louisville at Knoxville for the start of a best-of-five first-round series. Also Thursday, Greensboro is at Cincinnati and Erie is at Johnstown. The Richmond-Hampton Roads series is tentatively set to begin Friday.
