Carrie Nichols Thompson, age 95, of Salem, formerly of Floyd, died Tuesday in a local nursing home. She was the widow of Joshua W. Thompson and a member of Paynes Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two sons, Harding H. Thompson and Richard J. Thompson. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Aileen and James StClair, Roanoke; Avis and Golden Beckner, Roanoke; Lois and Parris Hammond, Salem; a daughter-in-law, Julia Thompson, Collinsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Roosevelt E. and Velma Thompson, Salem; one stepdaughter, Elma Turman, Floyd; one stepson, Kaufman Thompson, Floyd; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Paynes Creek Primitive Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Friday with Elder Hale Terry and the Rev. John Ingram officiating. Interment will follow in Radford Cemetery, Floyd County. Friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Oakey's South Chapel.
