A SHOW THAT HAS IT ALL

Looking for a place to learn about fashions, fan belts, healthy cooking and open-heart surgery? A place where you can be entertained, educated and enlightened?

The 1991 American Women's Show Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Roanoke Civic Center has it all - and more.

Although the target audience of the annual show is women, Danny Taylor, president of American Shows, said that all members of the family will enjoy the experience.

"It's an opportunity for everyone to discover new products on the market," from the newest bridal fashions to latest styles in home decor, he said.

A list of the show's exhibitors includes vacation and travel companies, health and fitness, cosmetics and skin care, fashions, pet care, music, home care and improvement, food, clothing, jewelry, insurance and financial planning at more than 150 displays and on three stages.

The Appalachian Power Co. Celebrity Kitchen will feature local celebrities, home economists and businesses, cooking everything from diet food to bagels.

On the seminar stage, demonstrations will range from organic gardening to children's music instruction.

The fashion stage will be alive with dancing, gymnastics, swimwear, fashions and, yes, auto care. Many exhibitors will give away prizes and free samples.

"We run the entire gamut," said Taylor, adding "there will be so many surprises for people who attend."

Shows hours are noon to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Things get underway Friday with the ribbon cutting by Miss Virginia, who'll stick around until 6 p.m. to sign autographs and talk to the public.

The entertainment begins at 4 p.m., with new shows beginning on the hour until 8 p.m. Cooking demonstrations start at 4:30 and seminar stage shows at 6 p.m.

Saturday entertainment starts at 1 p.m., cooking at 2:30 p.m. and seminars at 4 p.m. Sunday entertainment starts at 1 p.m., cooking demonstrations at 1:30, and seminars at 3 p.m.

"There's always something happening" for folks to do, learn and enjoy, Taylor said.
