In the quietude of the very early hours of March 11, S. Elizabeth Lewis entered her chamber in the silent halls of death from the Radford Community Hospital. She was born August 29, 1900, in Dublin, Va. Upon graduation from Christiansburg Institute, she began a teaching career in Pulaski County which spanned 45 years. Most of these years were spent in the public school system of the City of Radford. During these years and after retirement she was an active member of the New Mount Olive United Methodist Church where she served in various capacities and was active in some community organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernal Lewis, and three brothers and one sister. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Agnes Lewis of Roanoke, Va. and Julia Black of New River, Va.; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the New Mount Olive United Methodist Church, Radford, Va., with the Rev. Virginia Timmons officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, Va. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 until 8:00 at the New Mount Olive United Methodist Church. Claytor-Alexander and Penn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
