LAST OF JOGGER-ATTACK DEFENDANTS SENTENCED

The last of six teen-agers charged in the near-fatal rape and assault of the woman known as the Central Park jogger was sentenced Wednesday to 1 1/2 to 4 1/2 years as part of a plea deal.

Steven Lopez, 17, pleaded guilty only to robbery in the mugging of a male jogger. Charges in the woman's attack were dropped.

Although other youths said Lopez was one of the woman's chief attackers, state Justice Thomas Galligan noted that court records won't reflect that.

"But decent people everywhere will remember [the sentencing] as the final chapter of the brutal and sadistic rampage in Central Park by a large group of cowardly attackers who found strength in each other," Galligan said.
