RENOIR PAINTING STOLEN FROM NIMES MUSEUM

During visiting hours, a Renoir painting valued at more than $1 million was stolen from a museum in southern France, authorities said.

The work stolen Wednesday, Young Women in the Countryside, was among about 280 works from the 19th and 20th centuries on display at Museum of Modern Art in Bagnols-sur-Ceze, near Avignon.

It was painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir in 1906.

In 1972, thieves stole 15 impressionist and post-impressionist works from the museum. They have never been recovered.
