DR. WILLIAM BARNARD, CHIEF RADIOLOGIST AT LEWIS-GALE, DIES

Dr. J. William "Bill" Barnard, chief of the Department of Radiology at Lewis-Gale Clinic and a former chief of staff at Lewis-Gale Hospital, died Wednesday.

Barnard, 55, also was a former president of Lewis-Gale Clinic.

Fomerly of Grundy, Barnard attended Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia and received his M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia.

He was a captain in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and received the Air Medal and the Bronze Star.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Roanoke; two sons and daughters-in-law, John Jr. and Heather Barnard of Dallas, Tex., and Kevin and Christy Barnard of Richmond; and two daughters, Brooke and Meg Barnard of Roanoke.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church. Oakey's South Chapel is handling the arrangements.
