BOARD CHAIRMAN SUED

Exchange Milling Co. is suing dairy farmer Jack H. Newbill for nearly $19,000 in unpaid feed bills, court papers show.

Newbill, chairman of the Franklin County School Board, said Thursday that he would clear up his account in a few days.

Newbill said his family has had an open account at Exchange Milling since the 1950s and that the company never has had problems carrying an unpaid balance.

Newbill said new owners of the company recently asked him to settle his account, but he did not realize "they were ready to make a judgment."

Exchange Milling claims that Newbill owes $18,975 and has made no effort since November to "substantially reduce this indebtedness," according to a lawsuit filed Monday in Franklin County Circuit Court.

The company is seeking repayment plus court costs. No court date was set.
