Starting in June, L.J. Bays Inc. will receive $9,620 a month for a year - a 10 percent increase over Bays' current contract.
County Administrator William Rolfe advised county supervisors that the increase was reasonable "given the facts that Bays is now operating the landfill under more stringent regulations to maximize the remaining life of the facility, is having to dig an extremely large trench and temporarily close out the remaining portions of the landfill, and is facing higher fuel costs and the need for more equipment."
The proposed contract also includes provisions to allow Bays to continue operating the landfill through its closing and the opening of the county's new landfill.
After June 30, 1992, the contract can be extended on a month-to-month basis until June 1993.
The Board of Supervisors agreed last month not to take competitive bids on operation of the landfill. Instead, it agreed to renegotiate Bays' contract.
