MAN APPLIES AGAIN FOR `ATHEIST' VANITY TAG

An atheist whose personalized license plate was revoked by the Department of Motor Vehicles six years ago applied again Thursday for a vanity tag proclaiming his belief that God does not exist.

Arnold Via of Grottoes wants a license plate with the word "ATHEIST." In 1982, before personalized tags were expanded from six to seven letters, Via obtained the tag "ATHEST." That plate was revoked by DMV in 1985 after a citizen complained about it.
